Rotary Fatigue Testing - Clark Testing

Rotary Fatigue Testing

The unique capabilities of Clark Testing’s rotary fatigue lab qualify it as one of the most comprehensive rotary test laboratories in the world. With capabilities up to 400,000 lbs ft. on a test specimen of 90’ in length, Clark is able to recreate the impact forces see on most rotating apparatus. We conduct rotary fatigue testing with variable rotation capabilities on motor shafts, prop shafts, rods, pipe & tube for assessment of ultimate strength on rotary devices. Clark’s rotary test systems have the ability to induce fatigue on test specimens with multiple diameters and lengths.

Rotary fatigue test programs accelerate component life under simulated environmental condition through cyclical aging. We rotate components to a minimum cyclical duration or to failure depending upon the test plan. Clark will provide failure or root cause analysis of a crack propagation or yield during cyclic aging. Along with the array of rotary fatigue test systems at Clark, we have a Scanning Electron Microscope SEM to provide the microscopic analysis of the metallurgical reaction to the forces induced by the test program

Our Rotary Fatigue Laboratory at Clark Testing can conduct beam and torsional fatigue testing of metals at high and low frequency. Our Rotary Fatigue Testing Laboratory can generate high cycle fatigue on components with large diameter and varied lengths including rotations from 30° to 90° rotation.

Repeated cyclic loading will cause fatigue and stresses first creating microscopic cracks that propagate to failure at the roots of the cracks to yield during cyclic aging. Shafts, rods, pipe, studs, and threaded connectors are especially prone to this failure mode.

Upon failure, Clark Testing reports to our customers the points where stresses are prevalent, the number of cycles that the test sample experience, the amount of stress that the test sample experienced for each cycle the applicable failure mode of the material.

The rotary fatigue systems at Clark include:
